MCDONOUGH, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The body of a soldier from McDonough killed in Afghanistan will be buried Monday.
Pvt. 1st Class Brandon D. Goodine, 20, was killed in action June 7 while serving his country in the United States Army.
He died as a result of injuries received from an attack with an IED.
Goodine was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, out of Fort Bragg, NC.
Goodine's body arrived at Falcon Field at the Atlanta Regional Airport in Peachtree City on Saturday morning.
His body was escorted by the Henry County Police Department and the Henry County Sheriff's Office to Haisten Funeral Home, with dozens of onlookers and well-wishers like the Shaver family.
Kevin and Michelle Shaver wanted their four children to witness the caravan caring the soldier's body to help teach them the value of his sacrifice.
"I didn't know him personally. I don't believe I have to, to honor him. His life is immeasurable. The fact that he gave it for me and my family, I must respect that. I must honor that," Kevin Shaver said.
A memorial service was held at Bethany Baptist Church.
Goodine will then be buried at EastLawn Cemetery.
