RIVERDALE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
CBS Atlanta has learned the man shot, during what appears to be a home invasion in Riverdale, has died.
Riverdale Police late Friday morning identified the victim as David Rucker, 25.
It happened Thursday night at Brooks Crossing Apartments on Taylor Road.
Police said the gunman barged into Rucker's apartment, with his wife and kids inside, and shot Rucker once in the chest.
A neighbor said there were three children, ages five and younger.
The wife told police she and her husband were in the master bedroom watching TV when they overheard someone banging at the back door. She said she also heard the blinds moving, as if someone had entered the apartment.
She grabbed the kids and stayed in the bedroom to call police. She said she heard her husband struggling with the gunman as he tried to enter one of the kid's bedrooms.
She heard one gunshot and found her husband face down in the hallway.
She told police she thought there were two suspects but could only describe one of them, who she said was wearing a ski mask and black clothing.
Officers found the back window open and located a chair on the outside air conditioner.
They have not said why that particular apartment was targeted.
Police said they would continue to investigate.
Rucker was rushed to Southern Regional Hospital in critical condition where he later died.
