COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The Cobb County police are investigating a child deprivation and reckless conduct case in Austell.
Police received a 911 call from Whisper Woods Apartment complex about smoke engulfing an apartment.
When the fire department arrived, they heard someone crying inside the apartment.
Firefighters rescued two children inside the apartment, according to police.
The kids were taken to Wellstar Cobb Hospital for smoke inhalation.
Further investigation found Mercedes Guadalupe Behena, 39, had left for work, leaving her two children at home alone and asleep.
She accidentally left her stove on, according to police.
Behena was charged with two counts of child deprivation and two counts of reckless conduct.
