CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The Cherokee Narcotics Squad seized 6,200 packages of synthetic marijuana on Tuesday.

Agents went to stores where products known as synthetic "cannabinoid" were sold.

Since June 11, these products have been considered contraband under Georgia law.

If the items recovered from the stores turn out to be illegal, the store managers will be charged with felony possession of a schedule one controlled substance.

The items will be tested by the GBI Crime Lab.

Agents recovered 6,200 packages of synthetic marijuana at HY Novelties in Canton, more than 2,200 from Smoke 911 in Woodstock and about 600 from a store in Ball Ground.

Four hundred packets were seized at a store in Holly Springs, according to agents.

Under Senate Bill 370, all types of synthetic marijuana and synthetic substances known as "bath salts" are illegal to possess or sell in Georgia.
