Carter and Hampton
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Atlanta police have arrested two men whom they believe to be responsible for a string of robberies.
Police said Xavier Carter, 21, and Jaquon Hampton, 23, had 10 cell phones and three laptops in their car when officers arrested them early Tuesday morning.
It all started after police received a 911 call from a female victim at 4 a.m. on Tuesday.
The victim told police that she had been robbed on Piedmont Avenue. She said that before she was robbed, she noticed one of the suspects driving down the street. A second suspect jumped out of the trunk with a gun and stole her purse, which contained two cell phones.
As police headed to the scene to meet with the victim, a traffic stop was made about two blocks away on Juniper Street.
That's where police said they found Carter and Hampton with a gun inside their Taurus.
Police said Carter led an officer to where he had dumped the victim's purse, which was returned to her.
Another witness came to police and identified Carter and Hampton as the suspects of another armed robbery, according to police.
Faith Davis lives in the area.
"Popping out of the trunk is a little scary because that's completely unexpected," said Davis.
Chris Fowler works in the area.
"I think that's absolutely crazy, but it seems like they are always thinking of new things to do around here to catch people off guard," said Fowler.
Police charged Hampton and Carter with robbery. They were both taken to the Fulton County Jail.
