AUSTELL, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A 20-year-old man was shot and killed Friday night in Austell, collapsing after attempting to run for his life.

Cobb County police said Joseph Owens was shot near the West Chase apartment complex in Austell on Six Flags Drive late Friday night. He was able to run about 200 yards before falling. Owens was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died.

A Cobb County investigator said it appears Owens did nothing to bring on the attack and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Owens' parents said he was a strong student in high school and was doing well at the Art Institute of Atlanta. They said he had gone to a visit a friend living in the area where the shooting happened.

"It's our hope that he wasn't doing anything that he had no business doing," said his mother, Quinetta Owens-Grant. "He came from a good home. We did everything we were supposed to do by him."

Police are looking for two suspects. Both suspects are described as black males. The first suspect is described as being 5'09" to 5'11" tall with a thin build. It's believed he is between the age of 18 and 24. He wears his hair in an ear-length "dreads" style. The suspect was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, jeans and was armed with a handgun.

The second suspect is 5'08" to 5'10" tall with a thin build. It is estimated he is between the age of 18 and 20. He has short hair that has "twists" in it. One of the suspect's eyebrows is pierced. He was last seen wearing a white tank top, jeans and carrying a black netted bag with a shoulder strap.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Cobb County Police Department at 770-499-3945.
