DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office arrested a man in a deadly shooting that led to gunfire at that man's funeral.
Marcus D. Ventress, 28, allegedly shot Ryan Guider several times in the chest on May 26.
The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Squad and the U.S. Marshals Task Force captured Ventress in Columbus on Monday.
Tuesday morning, Ventress was in the DeKalb County Jail awaiting a court appearance.
The shooting was said to be an act of vengeance, according to police. A witness said Guider burglarized the home of Ventress stealing jewelry, cash and drugs, and punched Ventress' mother.
Guider's memorial service at Victory Baptist Church on June 7 was also the scene of gunfire. A fight broke-out shortly after the eulogy, and there was a shootout in the parking lot.
Delmetrius Heard, 28, of Decatur was shot twice and killed. Carlos Henderson Jr., 19, of Ellenwood was shot four times in the chest area and also died.
Heard and Henderson fired shots at each other. Two other people were shot, but survived their injuries, police said.
Ventress is charged with murder and is also charged with aggravated assault in connection with an act in which he fired a .22 caliber handgun into an apartment.
"He's being charged with aggravated assault for a May 25 shooting involving him shooting into an apartment, we assume trying to get Ryan Guider, the day before he actually he actually murdered him, or allegedly murdered him," said DeKalb County Sheriff's Sgt. Adrion Bell.
Ventress previously served a 6-year sentence in federal prison on a drug traffic charge and was imprisoned in Indiana on a cocaine possession charge.
