Truck suspected in accident
WOODSTOCK, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Cobb County Police arrested Kenneth Gonzalez, 53, Friday afternoon in connection with a hit-and-run accident that left a construction worker in critical condition.
Gonzalez had a first appearance Saturday morning and remains in the Cobb County jail.
That worker, who is recovering at Kennestone Hospital's intensive care unit, works for C. W. Matthews Contracting as a truck driver and was delivering something to the construction site at the time of the accident.
Passerby Bill Lacy couldn't believe how much damage the suspected vehicle had sustained.
"They're out there trying to do their job and then to have someone come through a construction site and not be paying attention to the speed limit or the people working - it's terrible," Lacy said. "I'm just proud of the Cobb County Police and the Woodstock Police that they were able to apprehend this person after they ran away."
For hours, different police stations searched for a gray, 2006 GMC Sierra truck. Woodstock Police spokeswoman Brittany Duncan predicted the car would have noticeable damage.
"There will be passenger-side damage as well as a missing side mirror," Duncan said.
Cobb County Police ended up finding the suspected car after a concerned citizen saw it in Marietta.
