FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A reward offered after the 2003 shooting of a Fulton County police officer has never been paid, according to the office of the governor.
The $8,000 reward was offered by former Gov. Sonny Perdue's administration days after Officer Aaron Blount was gunned down during a traffic stop.
The total reward reached $38,700 after Fulton County and the Georgia Legislature announced their contributions. CBS Atlanta has not been able to determine if those agencies paid a reward.
Janis Jones said she gave information to police investigators that helped them find and arrest Kenneth Reese in Miami six days after the shooting.
Jones said Reese had tried to run her car off the road just after he had shot the officer.
Reese pleaded guilty in 2009.
Jones said she had been told by a Fulton County police lieutenant that she would be considered for the reward more than two years ago. Jones said she tried unsuccessfully for years to find out what happened to the reward.
"I would report crime, but it makes me reluctant to believe [law enforcement] will keep their end of the bargain," said Jones.
A spokeswoman for Gov. Nathan Deal said the office never received confirmation from Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard that Jones is eligible for the reward.
Howard issued a statement that said a decision has not been made, but he will issue an opinion as to whom should get the reward by June 1.
