Lieutenant Colonel Brenda Leffler and Major Steve Garcia
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Officials in Colorado announced two troopers saved an airline passenger who was having a heart attack mid-flight on Wednesday.
Lt. Col. Brenda Leffler and Maj. Steve Garcia noticed a male passenger experiencing signs of cardiac distress during a flight to Atlanta.
The male passenger, who was seated behind Leffler, told his wife he was experiencing chest pains before he lost consciousness.
Leffler performed chest compressions while the man's wife performed rescue breathing on her husband.
A flight attendant retrieved an automated, external defibrillator, which Leffler and Garcia used in an attempt to resuscitate the man.
The defibrillation attempts were successful, according to Colorado State Patrol.
The man was transported to an area hospital when the plane landed at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
