SMYRNA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Family and friends of 40-year-old Adina Parson are counting on the power of prayer to help her heal and bring the person who shot her to justice.

Parson's dad wiped away tears at a vigil on Tuesday.

"I've been emotional since I heard about it, today and tomorrow will be no different. I just hope and pray my daughter and her family will survive," said Joe Broome.

Despite being shot in the head three times and five times in her body, Parson is making progress.

"She's making movement, she knows you're here, we know she's responding," said Broome.

The vigil was held at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Smyrna. It was especially emotional for Parson's best friend, Sondra Reed.

"My heart is so broken because... she is my best friend," said Reed. "If you see how this church is today. If you know about her co-workers, if you know about Adina, you will understand this was definitely not for Adina. This was meant for someone else."

According to Sandy Springs police, someone shot Parson in the breezeway of her apartment at the Residences of Morgan Falls Apartments on Jefferson Drive in Sandy Springs about 11:45 p.m. Friday.

Investigators still do not have a motive or the shooter.

"I can't imagine anybody doing something this evil to her," said Reed.

Parson is an attorney who moved to Atlanta in 2004. She has been married for two years. Her husband decided to stay by her side at the hospital and not attend the vigil.

"That young man is a very devastated young man because his wife has been traumatized," said Broome.

Parson's family is counting on the public or the conscience of the shooter to turn himself in.

"That person has to be hurting to do so much damage to an individual," said Reed.
