Tyler Perry to host fund raisers for President Obama
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
President Barack Obama visited Atlanta Friday for a pair of fund raisers hosted by one of Atlanta's most famous residents - filmmaker and actor Tyler Perry.
The African-American Leadership Council, an arm of the president's campaign, held a gala at Perry's southwest Atlanta studio Friday evening.
The featured performer at the gala is another famous Atlantan, soul singer Cee-Lo Green. General admission tickets are $500. VIP tickets start at $2,500. A photo with the president costs $10,000. About 1,000 people attended, according to a spokesperson.
The president spoke to the crowd for half-an-hour. He kept to many of his campaign points such as healthcare and increasing taxes on the wealthy. He even took a friendly jab at host Perry.
"Tyler can afford to do a little more. He knows that," said Obama.
After the fundraiser, a dinner was held at Perry's home. An estimated 40 guests paid $35,800 a person to attend. The guests included Oprah Winfrey.
The president spent five hours in Atlanta before taking off for Washington D.C.
