Teen collects signatures to get "Bully" documentary rating lowered

Posted: Updated:
LOS ANGELES (CBS/KCBS) -

A Michigan teenager is taking on Hollywood. She's trying to get the R rating lowered on a new documentary about bullying, so kids her age can see it in theatres.

Katy Butler, 17, organized an online drive to change the rating on Bully to PG-13.

Thursday, Butler planned to present the petition with more than 200,000 signatures to the Motion Picture Association of America, which assigns the ratings.

The MPAA said the documentary got the R rating because of offensive language.

The Weinstein Company, which is distributing the documentary, tried unsuccessfully to get the rating changed last month.

Bully hits theaters March 30.
