NEWTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Georgia State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened early Tuesday morning on I-20 eastbound in Newton County.
Investigators said a Chevrolet Impala driven by 44-year-old William Clark Hildreph of South Carolina lost control of his vehicle and collided with the median wall.
This caused the vehicle to spin and come to rest facing west in the eastbound lanes. Hildreph, according to troopers, apparently exited his car and was crossing the travel lanes on foot when he was hit by a red or burgundy sport utility vehicle, possibly a Ford Explorer.
The SUV then left the scene.
A Chevrolet Malibu then hit the Impala.
Troopers are searching for the SUV, that will have damage possibly to the front end and windshield.
Anyone with information on the vehicle is asked to contact TFC Slayton at GSP Monroe at 770-464-1800 or through the Communications Center in Grovetown at 706-210-2050.
