Tires dumped illegally in homeowners backyard

FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

William Gay told CBS Atlanta News that someone dumped hundreds of old tires in his backyard, which is located on Cascade Road in Fulton County.

"I got rid of everything that was in the yard and then this happens, so I just don't know which way to go," said Gay.

Gay said he called police a few months ago when the driver of a U-Haul truck backed into his yard and started dumping tires.

"I mean, all they have to do is go to Fulton County and find out who had the code with the yellow markings on those tires and deal with them," said Gay.

CBS Atlanta News contacted Fulton County Code Enforcement on Tuesday and administrator Tony Phillips drove out to Gay's home to inspect the dumping.

"It's certainly an instance of dumping that would go beyond what we would see at a residential property that's occupied. There are a significant number of tires that have been dumped here and as you probably are aware this is a metropolitan area issue," said Phillips.

Phillips said they are actively trying to locate those responsible for the dumping, but the homeowner is ultimately responsible for securing the property and removing the tires.

"I can't pay to have those tires dumped and I have no way to haul them," said Gay.

Gay said he plans to work with the county to remove the tires and will also install a chain at the end of his driveway to keep the problem from happening again.
