ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
After winning the Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality Competition eight times in the past nine years, The Amazing Race is back for its 20th Season!
Ahead of the season premiere Sunday night, we talked to the show's Emmy-winning host, Phil Keoghan, about the new cast.
He says you're going to be seeing a lot of "type A" personalities this year.
"We have a lot of people who protect us, whether in the military, our borders or through the FBI," says Keoghan.
But the show is nothing if not diverse. The cast also includes a set of twins, dating divorcees and Keoghan adds "we have some professional athletes… we even have some clowns!"
To top it all off, the most controversial couple this season will be familiar to CBS viewers.
"Just for good measure we threw in Brendon [Villegas] and Rachel from Big Brother," says Keoghan.
Rachel [Reilly] is last season's winner of Big Brother. She and her fiancé, Brendon [Villegas], are the couple most reality TV fans love to hate. Of the casting choice, Keoghan says, "We thought it would stir things up. And you know what? It stirred things up."
Along the way this season, the teams will travel through five continents, 22 cities and nearly 40,000 miles.
This season's Racers will endure one of the most competitive courses ever, as they find themselves skydiving in Argentina, training with the Masai warriors in Tanzania and racing through Africa's "Garden of Eden," all to win the $1 million grand prize.
