ROSWELL, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Some parents at one Centennial High School actually encouraged their kids to play hooky today.
On Valentine's Day, someone wrote a message threatening students lives.
Principal Steven Milano of Roswell Centennial High School sent out an audio recording to inform parents about a threat written on Tuesday.
The message read:
"R.I.P. CHS kids, 2.16.12 there is going to be a shootout." "This is for real."
Milano assured parents that there will be extra security on campus on Thursday.
"I asked if they tightened down, he said the detectives have been in all day and they were doing everything they could do and the school was locked tight," said concerned parent Suzanne Muccino.
Muccino has twin boys in the tenth grade. She came to Centennial High School this afternoon just to check on them.
"I am really attached to my boys, so yeah, I am worried," Muccino said. "I asked the front desk if a lot of students were out, and she said 'yes they were.' At the end of the day I think the school has it covered. I don't want to give in to random pranks."
Officers will monitor the school for suspicious activity, and authorities have already reviewed video surveillance and conducted interviews in this case.
But despite all the precautions some parents, like Tara Tielhaber, kept her daughter Allie out of class.
"Yeah, I am worried," Allie Tielhaber said. "They said it was serious this time, and it was for real this time, so I listened to my mom and skipped."
"I think the school is doing enough, they are on lockdown there is extra security, the school warned us ahead of time," Tielhaber said. "I think they did exactly what they are supposed to do. But, as parents, we have to make the decision to send our kids to school or not. I am not willing to take that risk."
Parents and students are urged to call 770-650-4230 if they have any information about this threat.
