MARIETTA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A 7-year-old girl was hit by a pickup truck while walking to her school bus stop Wednesday morning, according to Cobb County police. Shanasia Jackson was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for her injuries. By 11 a.m., Jackson was back home, playing with her sister in front of their door at the Country Pines apartment complex off South Cobb Drive.
Cobb County police were trying to find the driver of the vehicle.
"I ran in there, I started crying, and I said, 'I just got hit by a car!'" said Jackson, explaining how she reacted to being hit. Her grandmother, Janice Sampler, had a hard time believing it at first.
"She came running back around and said 'Grandmom, I've been hit.' And I said 'What?' And she said 'I got hit.'"
Police believe the vehicle is a white pickup truck, possibly a Ford model. Sgt. Dana Pierce said Wednesday afternoon they did not have any descriptions on the driver or the passengers. Pierce said it is possible the driver never knew he or she hit anyone, because it was dark at the time.
Still, Pierce said they are handling the case as a hit-and-run, and would like to speak with the driver to get their side of the story.
