NORCROSS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Family and friends of 15-year-old Nicholas Jackson said their final goodbyes to him at the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.

Dozens of his former teammates from his high school football team wore their jerseys to the funeral as a sign of support.

Friend Chris Bingham expressed his sorrow at a young life cut short.

"He was such a young guy, he had a whole career ahead of him," Bingham said. "He had a lot to live for and it's tough to see a kid that young pass away so soon."

Many of Jackson's classmates, like Isaiah Gates, were still trying to process why their friend was shot and killed in his own home. Police have arrested six men in connection with his death.

"It's sad - he really didn't deserve it from our view," Gates said. "I hope whoever did it gets what they get."

Jackson's mother spoke at the funeral, expressing her gratitude for all of the support community members have offered since his death.

Jackson's coach also spoke about his work ethic, something former teammate Javin Harlan agreed with.

"He's a hard worker. He always wanted to go 100 percent. Everything he did, he never wanted to go half on," Harlan said. "He always told me, the more you slack off in the weight room you're not going to get no play time on the field."
