Thieves take newborn's ashes, suspects caught on surveillance video

FAYETTEVILLE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Thieves broke into a Fayetteville home and got away with expensive electronics and something far more valuable to one family, an urn filled with their newborn's ashes.

Father Brian said he wants the urn back.

"I was upset at first, I've moved into the angry stage now," Allen said.

Allen said his daughter, Olivia, died at birth.

"We didn't get to spend a lot of time with her. It's invaluable to us," Allen said.

Thieves stole the heart shaped urn containing Olivia's ashes along with a Kindle Fire and other valuables. Allen believes the crook may have mistaken the urn for a jewelry box.

"It does look like a large broach box, but it wasn't," Allen said.

Fayette County deputies believe two men caught on surveillance video at a Jonesboro gas station are responsible. Investigators said the men sold the stolen Kindle Fire to a store clerk.

"When they sold it, the people continued to use it and the sheriff department were able to locate it from the signal that it was producing," Allen said.

Investigators said store cameras captured the entire sale and exchange of money. They believe the duo may still be in the area traveling in a dark colored Honda Accord. But Allen said he isn't worried about the expensive electronics he's lost; he just wants one priceless item back.

"That's all we had of her ... if we got nothing else back, we would like that back," Allen said.
