ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Thursday investigators will work to determine what started a fire at an Atlanta high-rise that sent nearly 200 people, many elderly, outside into the cold.

The flames broke-out late Wednesday night at the Lenox Summit Apartments in Brookhaven on East Club Drive, off of Peachtree Road.

One man was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Firefighters contained the flames to a first-floor unit, but residents said smoke filled several floors in the five-story building.

One man said he was watching TV when he heard the smoke alarms. He jumped into action.

"I knocked on a couple of doors, and somebody knocked on mine to come down," said the man who identified himself only by his first-name, James.

William "Wiz" Miller, DeKalb County's Public Safety Director, said MARTA buses were brought in to provide shelter.

"It's turning a little cool tonight, and we have elderly, mostly elderly occupants, in this apartment building," said Miller.

By Thursday morning, most everyone had returned to their apartments.
