ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Some high school students from Cobb County are traveling to Washington D.C. to participate in a science fair at the White House where they'll present their award-winning robot to the President.

CBS Atlanta caught up with two of the students, who were leaving Monday morning to represent their 32-member Kell High School team.

Matthew Tompkins and Carlie Schulter will be presenting a scale model of a skimmer to President Obama.

"We designed it to skim the oil out of shallow water estuaries that are left behind by oil rigs, so we are able to save all the marine life in the estuaries that are not being saved out in the open water," Tompkins said.

President Obama will see the project Tuesday morning on exhibit.
