BARTOW COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The Bartow County Sheriff's Office is investigating after two people were stabbed during a robbery.
At about 10:35 p.m. Tuesday, deputies were dispatched to a 911 call of a person stabbed at a home on Joe Frank Harris Parkway.
When deputies arrived, they found 48-year-old Herbert Drews of Cartersville being held down by a man who had been stabbed in the chest.
They discovered a second stabbing victim in a rear bedroom.
After deputies investigated, they determined Drews was committing armed robbery.
Troyce Warrens, who captured and held Drews after being stabbed twice, said he was in the fight of his life after the man kicked in Warrens door.
"He stabbed me there. He kicked my door in, in my bedroom, and he cut my face right here and I had to get it stitched up. I got staples here and a staple in my leg," said Warrens. "I thought he was crazy. He told me he was going to kill me and I told him, 'Lets have at it.'"
Warrens said he had no choice but to defend himself. According to police, Drews, who's mug shot shows he also sustained injuries during the fight, had just robbed and stabbed Warrens 71-year old neighbor moments before entering his room.
"I seen the man just gushing blood and the old man was barely able to move at the time," said Warrens.
Bartow County deputies said Drews also stole money from his elderly victim.
"Deputies were able to gather information that it was a robbery that turned into an assault," said Sgt. Jonathan Rodgers.
Warrens said he's happy to be alive after Sunday night's fight.
"I saved the old man's life by taking him down and beating him until the cops got here," said Warrens.
Drews was arrested after being treated at an area hospital and charged with aggravated battery, armed robbery, and burglary.
Warrens was taken to a hospital and released.
The second person found stabbed is in critical condition at an area hospital with multiple stab wounds.
