Britax recalls child safety seats

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall of child safety seats by Britax Child Safety, Inc.

The recall involves 14,220 "Chaperone" infant car seats that have a harness adjuster problem, according to a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Transportation. The harness adjuster is located at the foot of the car seat, and it can be accessed by lifting the fabric, and ensuring that it is secured in place by the rivet.

Though the Highway Traffic Safety Administration is not aware of any deaths or injuries due to this defect, it can result in ineffective safety harness straps, the spokesman explained.

These Britax Child Safety seats are sold in the U.S., he said, and include the following models: E9L692J, E9L692K, E9L692L and E9L692M, manufactured from Sept. 1, 2010, to April 30, 2011.

Car-seat owners with this problem should immediately stop using the product and contact Britax to solve the issue, at 1-888-427-4829.
