FORSYTH COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
"It's like a bad dream. it really is," said Ann McDonald of the abduction and murder of her late friend Patrice Endres nearly eight years ago.
Her grief is made worse, she said, by the fact no one has been held responsible for the crime.
"I don't know how she could have had any enemies. She was a loving person," McDonald said.
McDonald said she was driving along Highway 369 in Forsyth County on Apr. 15, 2004 when she saw police cars and crime tape in front of Endres' salon, Tambers Trim and Tan.
"I knew something was wrong," she said.
According to police, shortly before noon, Endres was between appointments when someone came to the shop and abducted her.
Authorities launched a massive search for the 38-year-old mother and wife but found nothing.
A year and a half later, Endres' remains were found in woods behind a Dawson County church.
In December of 2005, Endres' sister, Kyleen Kramer, told reporters that finding her sister's remains brings them one step closer to finding her killer.
But it appears police have many more steps ahead of them.
Nearly eight years after her disappearance, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation still hasn't arrested anyone.
"That's frustrating," said GBI special agent Mitchell Posey.
He said the case may only be solved if people share what they know.
Posey is trying to identify who was at Endres' shop around the time she went missing.
One witness driving by the salon recalled seeing a man she described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall with a medium build and shoulder-length hair.
Another witness driving by told police she thought it was a woman with shoulder-length hair. She also reported seeing another, stockier woman.
The descriptions of the car differed too.
The first witness described the car in the salon parking lot as an early 2000s blue Taurus or Malibu.
The second witness thought the car was a mid-1990s blue and gray Lumina.
"We've never identified who this may be. So that's obviously of interest to us," Posey said.
Posey is also releasing images of Endres' missing wedding ring with hopes someone may recognize it and lead them to the murderer. The ring is two bands soldered together with a marquis diamond set.
Posey asked the public to recall any strange events in April of 2004 such as "someone who came home wearing different clothes, different shoes, had an unusual reason why they had to change clothes, change their shoes or they suddenly had to clean car well."
In 2005, now convicted serial killer Jeremy Jones confessed to Endres' murder, but investigators don't believe him because her body wasn't found where he said he left it.
Posey said there's no evidence Rob Endres, Patrice's husband, was involved either.
For McDonald, eight years hasn't diminished her faith that someone will tell what they know and her friend will get justice.
"I still believe we're going to get an answer. I want an answer. There's no real closure to this. They'll never be until we know who did it and why they did it," McDonald said.
