Victim identified in fatal Doraville pedestrian accident

A pedestrian was struck and killed on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard northbound near the intersection with I-285 around 5:15 a.m. Friday.

DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 54-year-old Durward Hayes.

Gene Callaway with Doraville Police said Hayes was struck by a pickup truck and three other cars, including two tractor trailers.

"What we don't know is what he was doing out here at this time of the morning," Callaway said.

He said there are no sidewalks on that stretch of the busy road.

"You're not supposed to be out walking on Peachtree Industrial, especially in the middle of the night, 5:00 in the morning."

All the drivers remained on the scene and are cooperating with police.

Peachtree Industrial north was blocked for several hours during the investigation, but reopened around 9:15 a.m.
