DUNWOODY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Dunwoody police arrested a 23-year-old from Sandy Springs who allegedly stole a $1,800 Maltese puppy from a Dunwoody pet store.

On Monday, officers arrested Timothy Cadarral Cannon for the puppy theft at the Petland on Ashford Dunwoody Road.

Reports say on Jan. 22, just before 1:00 p.m. Cannon walked into the store and told the clerk he was going to buy the puppy.

When the clerk turned away, Cannon fled out the front door to an awaiting car. Police say he dropped his cell phone during the ordeal.

On Saturday, an unidentified man returned the puppy to Petland.

Cannon was charged with larceny and shoplifting.
