Former Clayton County Sheriff's deputy arrested, jailed

JONESBORO, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A former deputy and spokesperson for the Clayton County Sheriff's Department who was indicted last year was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Henry County Jail.

Henry County Jail records showed 23-year-old Alicia Parkes was arrested Tuesday afternoon.

As of Tuesday night, why Parkes was arrested was not clear.

A spokesperson for the Henry County Sheriff's department told CBS Atlanta that Parkes was being held there for Clayton County.

Clayton County Sheriff's officials did not return repeated phone calls and emails about the arrest Tuesday night.

A Clayton County grand jury indicted Parkes on two felony counts last March.

In one count, Parkes was charged with unlawful eavesdropping and surveillance after investigators say she recorded an employee in a woman's bathroom stall.

Another employee, LaDonna Williams, told CBS Atlanta's Wendy Saltzman last March that she was fired because she refused to participate in a deviant sexual affair with Parkes.

Williams claimed Parkes made sexual advances to her and she reported the harassment to internal affairs. Included in that report were the details of Parkes videotaping another employee in the bathroom.

The second count was for obstructing a law enforcement officer who tried to apprehend a relative of Parkes.

Another CBS Atlanta Tough Questions investigation reported Parkes may have received preferential treatment last March when she was booked into the Clayton County Jail. The report indicated Parkes never actually stepped foot in the jail or took a mug shot like other accused felons would normally do. At the time, Sheriff Kem Kimbrough denied any favoritism.
