ATLANTA (CNN) -
The housing collapse has dramatically changed the nation's foreclosure landscape.
Data generated for CNNMoney by RealtyTrac. In 2011, Western states claimed 82 of the 100 worst hit zip codes with 38 in California and another 28 in Nevada.
Georgia claimed 12 of those neighborhoods, including one in Atlanta that took 10th place.
"I think for Atlanta, I think it was the predatory lending (that caused the housing crisis)," said Shea Zimmerman, a managing broker with Harry Norman Realtors. "And absolutely, the targeting of certain areas of our city, where those who may not be as well-versed in the financial world, and how to manage their money."
Zimmerman went so far as to say Atlanta was the predatory lending capital of the country, in the mid-2000s. She believes the housing crisis has hit bottom for now, though she does not predict much improvement for the housing market in 2012.
Not a single Northeastern zip code made RealtyTrac's top 100 list.
