New Birth Christian Academy reopens after temporary closure

LITHONIA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

New Birth Missionary Baptist Church reopened on Thursday after a temporary closure.

New Birth and The Aurora Schools recently formed a new partnership that allowed New Birth Christian Academy to reopen.

Earlier this week, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Bishop Eddie Long spoke at a press conference Wednesday morning, saying he blamed the closing on a mounting financial deficit for the church, and the academy.

"It was a very, very tough decision, that we had to make, and we had to make a business decision, in reference to the temporary closing of New Birth Christian Academy," said Long.

Under Long's leadership, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church has a membership of more than 25,000, with satellite locations across America.
