ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Tuesday morning, Gov. Nathan Deal announced the launch of a skilled labor initiative at the Capitol.

The initiative, called "Go Build Georgia," is designed to educate young people on the value of learning a skilled trade and the need for skilled trade workers in Georgia.  The program is part of the Governor's Competitiveness Initiative.

"This initiative to help Georgia's skilled trade industries will open new opportunities for our students and Georgia's job seekers," said Deal. "Go Build Georgia brings together education and business stakeholders to further develop our workforce which will make our state more competitive nationally."

According to a release from the Governor's office, a projected 16,500 jobs will become available in the state over the next year.  Those jobs openings will all be part of the skilled labor field and Gov. Deal's initiative was put into place to help job-seeking Georgians prepare for those jobs.
