King Center hosts naturalization ceremony

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

One-hundred people fulfilled a life long dream and became American citizens Friday.

The naturalization ceremony was held at the King Center in Atlanta in honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.

The citizenship candidates were from 46 different countries, including Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Jamaica, Togo and Italy.

The group even included people from the tiny island nation of St. Kitts-Nevis and the small African nation of Burundi.

They all said becoming a citizen is a dream come true, but to do it during MLK weekend at the King Center only made it better.

"It's very special, meaningful. MLK stood up for people's rights and freedom and equality for everyone so I'm glad it happened at this time," said one participant.

The keynote speaker was King's son, Martin Luther King III.
