People across the country lined up and, in some cases, fought for a chance at the newest pair of Air Jordan shoes Friday morning.
People lined up early at Stonecrest Mall in Lithonia to get the limited release Nike Air Jordan Concord 11. Around 6 a.m., the crowd became unruly and damaged the mall entrance. Three people were arrested for disorderly conduct.
At Cumberland Mall, over 500 people lined up for the release. People were pushing, but no arrests are made.
One person arrested for disorderly conduct at Lenox Square Mall.
Many others waiting nationwide caught similar sights, with fights, arrests and incidents of people getting trampled happening at multiple shoe outlets.
In Pineville, N.C., dozens of police officers responded to fights breaking out, according to WBTV. One woman said the crowd nearly took the door off its hinges and knocked over women and small children.
KSLA in Shreveport, LA, reported that hundreds waited outside the doors at a local mall in anticipation of the release. In Charlotte, a WBTV reporter found a similar sight outside the Charlotte Bobcats team store waiting for the nearly $200 shoes.
Even season ticket holders for the Michael Jordan-owned team were forced to stand among the rest of the hopefuls.
Releases from the Air Jordan line, featuring the signature "jumpman" insignia, have created similar stirs for decades at shopping malls and shoe stores. The line has continued its popularity following the retirement of its namesake in 2003.
