DOUGLASVILLE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Kesia McNease and her three daughters had a long night of shopping Wednesday, punctuated by a simple mistake that opened the door for someone to swoop in and claim more than $300 of presents the family purchased throughout the day.
Shopping at Arbor Place Mall in Douglasville, they walked out of the DTLR store and quickly realized they'd left several bags of items behind. By the time they got back five minutes later, someone had already taken them.
"We work so hard in trying to do what we can for our kids," said McNease. "And for my daughter's whole Christmas to be taken in a matter of minutes... I was heartbroken."
She said an employee with DTLR allowed someone else to claim the items, saying they knew who the gifts belonged to. Douglasville police said the mall's security cameras failed to catch the thief exiting the store.
"It's just all about my daughter. It's disappointing when kids' hearts are broken," said McNease.
DTLR did not immediately respond to CBS Atlanta's request for a statement on the incident.
