EAST POINT, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

An East Point man and his grandmother escaped their burning home without injury early Thursday.

Brandon Terrell told CBS Atlanta News he was smoking in the patio room of the Idlewood Drive when he left to go to the restroom, thinking his cigarette was out.

Terrell returned and found the room on fire. He woke his grandmother and left the home.

East Point Firefighters evacuated nearby homes and crews immediately began battling the flames.

There was moderate damage to the home.

No one was injured in the fire. The Red Cross was called to assist the family.
