FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Atlanta Humane Society opened its newest shelter in Alpharetta on Saturday. This new facility is located at 1565 Mansell Road.

The organization's new North Fulton campus expects to find homes for more than 6,000 kittens, cats, puppies and dogs over the next year. Those numbers are expected to double the amount of adoptions completed annually at its Howell Mill Campus.

The facility cost $10 million and is 32,000 square feet. It also boasts four dog runs totaling an acre and cage-free dog habitats. Cats were not left out. There are four rooms for cats to roam freely.

Other features include a $1 million ventilation system, private meet-and-greet rooms in addition to a biometric security system.

Saturday's ribbon cutting was attended by the organization's president, William Shaheen, Congressman Tom Price, State Senator Albers and Mayors from Alpharetta, Milton and Roswell.
