ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Former Speaker of the House and presidential candidate Newt Gingrich sat down with CBS Atlanta today, just after a newly-released poll that puts him in the top three candidates.
A poll released today by Quinnipiac University shows support for Herman Cain is increasing, while support for Texas Gov. Rick Perry has decreased. The poll shows that Cain has 30 percent of support, followed by Mitt Romney with 23 percent. Gingrich trails them with 10 percent, but he's now ahead of Perry, who in previous polls had been a top contender.
Gingrich credits his rise in popularity to the various debates that have put candidates head-to-head.
"All of a sudden, people could see me without any editing and they could see me in the context of the other candidates," Gingrich said.
Gingrich said he raised more money on Monday and Tuesday than he did for the entire month of July.
He heads to Iowa tomorrow and then to Houston on Saturday, where he'll debate Herman Cain on Medicare and Medicaid.
