ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Atlanta Public Schools superintendent Errol Davis knows about the bullying that is happening to a ninth-grade student at Washington High School.
"I have no doubt that this child is being bullied," said Davis.
Davis said the administrators at Washington have taken steps to make sure the accused bully does not have contact with Kathleen Sharp at school.
"The opportunity for that student to continue bullying or being involved in bullying on an ongoing basis is quite limited," said Davis.
Davis said Sharp and the girl accused of bullying her are now in separate programs.
"That girl is in another small community within the school. She has no contact with her (Sharp) during the day. They will not be on the same floor. They will not have any class together. They will not eat together," Davis told CBS Atlanta.
Sharp's mom, Dana Smith, said this information is new to her. Smith said on Oct. 4, she requested APS to transfer her daughter to another school. The transfer has not happened, so Smith took her daughter out of school.
"I can't send her back because of the safety issue," said Smith.
Sharp has been out of school for almost three weeks. CBS Atlanta's Tony McNary asked Davis why the school system has not transferred Sharp to another school if she's afraid to go back to Washington High?
"I'm not sure whether she'll get the transfer right now or not. What we are concerned about is that the child is out of school," Davis responded.
The district has also threatened to take the teen's mom to court for truancy. Smith said a counselor called her after CBS Atlanta aired her story. Smith said the counselor told her she didn't know about the bullying. Smith said the counselor will try to get the court hearing for truancy dismissed.
"Just place her somewhere else. That's all I'm asking," said Smith.
