Lawrence McClenton told CBS Atlanta News on Tuesday that rats destroyed some of his personal belongings stored at Uncle Bob's Self Storage on Tilly Mill Road in Doraville.
"It was disgusting, there were pellets of rat poop everywhere," said McClenton.
McClenton said he placed some of his home furnishings in storage about nine months ago and when he opened the storage unit last week to remove the items he noticed rat feces on everything. He also said rats scratched his leather couch and bore holes in his mattress.
"I'm pretty reluctant on going through everything. I'm scared something is going to hop out and grab me so I don't want to start moving stuff around until I check with my insurance company," said McClenton.
CBS Atlanta's Adam Murphy questioned management about the damage and apparent rodent problem.
"What are you doing to clean it up? Are you going to pay for damages?" asked Murphy.
Uncle Bob's Management did not respond to the questions. They simply asked CBS Atlanta to leave the property.
"I want them to help me to move my stuff. I don't want to have to do this and take time off of work and I want to be compensated for my losses," said McClenton.
