Metro Atlanta to mark 9/11 anniversary with events, ceremonies

Several cities across metro Atlanta will hold events and ceremonies to honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

Kroger Stores Pause to Honor 9/11 Victims and Heroes

Kroger's Atlanta division – Georgia, Eastern Tennessee, Northern Alabama and South Carolina – will be holding a moment of silent reflection on the morning of September 11 in remembrance of the men and women who lost their lives in the 2001 attacks.

Memorial Dedication scheduled - Union City 


Firefighters in Union City will unveil a memorial dedicated to 9/11 at each of its fire stations in September. The memorial will be unveiled September 7 at each station.

Duluth, Ga - Operation One Voice

Wounded Soldiers come together to honor Medal of Honor recipient, Leroy Petry, and remember the victims on the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001. 

A group will bike from Duluth City Hall to Lake Lanier Islands Resort at 8:00am on Saturday, September 10.  Operation One Voice will continue the Remembrance weekend with multiple events to include Casino Night, a concert with Travis Tritt and a 9/11 Memorial Service. 

The Emory University

12:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11
Emory volunteers will sort medical supplies for developing nations at MedShare or help beautify Kittredge Park off North Druid Hills Road. The projects are part of a national 9/11 day of service.

Panel discussion, "Islamophobia and the Impact on American Life" 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, Center for Ethics, Room 102, Emory.  Panelists include representatives from the Muslim Student Association, Georgia Association of Muslim Lawyers and the American Friends Service Committee.

Emory will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a week's worth of academic, worship, service and artistic events Sept. 7-13 to mark the day, its aftermath and the far-reaching changes wrought upon the country and world.

Alpharetta & Milton

"We Remember" ceremony

The cities of Alpharetta and Milton will hold a "We Remember" Memorial Service at the City of Alpharetta Memorial Park located in front of Alpharetta's Public Safety Headquarters on September 11th, 2011 beginning promptly at 1:30pm. 

This memorial ceremony will include a replay of selected 911 calls received during the attacks, a large aerial flag display, the presentation of colors, speeches from elected officials, public safety personnel and the placing of a memorial wreath by the combined honor guards from the Alpharetta and Milton public safety departments. 

Hands On Atlanta will commemorate the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks through service and volunteerism.

Hands On Atlanta's 9/11 Days of Service will be September 8 - 11, 2011, and will replace the organization's annual service event Hands On Atlanta Day, which usually occurs in October.

Fulton County Memorial Service

Cliftondale United Methodist Church
September 11, at 10:45 a.m.
The service will include a personal testimony from a Retired Lieutenant Colonel who was in the Pentagon at the time of the attack, and survived.  The Fulton County Sheriff's Department and Marshal's Department will also participate in the ceremony.

Henry County

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

Make plans now to attend a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony hosted by the city of Locust Grove at 7:00 p.m.

A candlelight remembrance ceremony will be held remembering the victims of 9/11 and honoring our current public safety workers.

Sheriff Keith McBrayer will speak on behalf of our safety workers and a survivor of the 9/11 attack on the twin towers will share some thoughts with us.

Paulding County

On September 11, 2011, the Paulding County Sheriff's Office and the Paulding County Fire Department will hold a ceremony at Mt. Tabor Park (at the 9-11 memorial site) honoring the men and women who gave their lives to help others on one unforgettable day.

Pre-ceremony music will be provided by Paulding County High School Band members.

Cedar Shoals High School

Friday, September 9 - 7:00-7:10 p.m. (Immediately prior to the football game.)

To tribute 9/11 first responders and military personnel, the Cedar Shoals High School chorus, band, color guard, JROTC, cheerleaders, administration and staff will perform the National Anthem with a special vocal tribute tonight. There will be approximately 300 individuals on the field to perform.
