Resident complains about mold at Norcross apartments

NORCROSS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Vitelle Webb told CBS Atlanta she has been living with mold in her Norcross apartment complex for more than a month, and the property manager has yet to eliminate the problem.

Webb lives at the Victory Trail Apartment Homes on South Norcross-Tucker Road in Gwinnett County.

Webb said she and her two children have been to the doctor several times during the past month due to respiratory problems associated with conditions in the apartment.

"When my kids starting getting sick I didn't think anything of it at first," said Webb. "My son started coughing and every night he kept coughing, but when the cold medicine didn't work that's when the pharmacist told me to take him to the doctor."

The doctor diagnosed Webb's son with asthma and told her it could be caused by mold.

So what happened when Webb complained to the property manager?

"They keep saying that we're going to put you in a new unit in a couple of weeks and it will be fixed with no mold or anything. They've been telling us two weeks since we moved in and every time it's two weeks, two weeks and when I've talked to the contractors who are actually doing the remodeling they've said it will take months to get this done," said Webb.

CBS Atlanta tried to question the property manager Tuesday about the mold issue and she shut the leasing office door and then called the police.

"I want them to fix it. Obviously, I don't want them to just be building over the mold and just be moving people in. I don't know what they have to tear out the walls or what to actually get rid of the mold so people can live without having health issues," said Webb.

CBS Atlanta News asked management if they could provide information for the owner of Victory Trail and they did not. Webb has now contacted an attorney to see if she can break her lease.
