ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
As students head back to school, drivers are asked to slow down in school zones and follow traffic laws.
On Wednesday, Atlanta officers will conduct a special enforcement operation to ticket drivers who speed or fail to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.
PEDS, in partnership with the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, will provide educational materials to violators.
Facts from PEDS:
Metro Atlanta drivers hit 4 pedestrians every day.
Speed kills. The higher the rate of speed in a crash, the more likely injuries to a person on foot will be serious or fatal.
Georgia law requires drivers to stop (not just yield) for pedestrians in crosswalks, even when the pedestrian is in another lane.
