ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
When it rains, it pours for some residents living on Donnelly Avenue in Southwest Atlanta.
Gregory Wright told CBS Atlanta News that the city drain in front of his home isn't working properly. Wright said that water spills over the drain every time it rains, causing water and trash to pour into his yard.
"When it rains the raging water creates a dangerous situation for vehicles and pedestrians. The raging water drains off into my driveway, basement, front and backyard," said Wright.
Wright isn't the only one complaining.
Mary Thomas lives next door and she said she has been complaining about the runoff for years.
"They give me all kinds of excuses. That's all I've been getting for years now," said Thomas.
Residents said the city has done nothing to resolve the drainage problem.
"The whole issue is because the drain is too small and it doesn't handle the water volume and I get more water in the yard than goes down that drain," said Wright.
CBS Atlanta News contacted Atlanta's Water Department about the drainage issue and they said they were looking into it. They also said they would not give a blanket comment until they have all of the facts.
"They're supposed to be here for us and they're not," said Wright.
