Seven educators implicated in Atlanta's massive cheating scandal have taken the option of walking away quietly.
According to a school district spokesman, two educators resigned or retired on Monday, and two more did so on Tuesday. Three more walked away on Wednesday.
Atlanta Public Schools list separation notices for the following teachers and one principal;
Charlene Martin: Fain School Teacher :Resignation
Janice Hicks: Slater Grove School Teacher :Retirement
Beverly Shanks: Park School Teacher :Retirement
Nettie Walker: Slater School Teacher :Resignation
Oliver Banks: Gideons School Teacher :Retirement
Rose Neal: Dunbar School Teacher :Retirement
Linda Paden: Finch School Principal :Retirement
Teachers and principals named in the state's 800-page investigative report had until the close of business on Wednesday to separate from the district on their own. After that, the firing process will begin.
On Monday, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Education said the agency is watching closely how Atlanta Public Schools handles the cheating scandal.
The federal government could withhold funds from the school district if it is not satisfied with the outcome.
