Bernard Watson joined CBS Atlanta in December 2009 as a reporter.
He was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but is no stranger to Atlanta. An Emory University Graduate, Bernard started his journalist career as a reporter at the Atlanta Journal Constitution. While working for the AJC, he also hosted a TV talk show in Smyrna, Georgia. A year later, Bernard was hired as a Video Journalist by CNN. Then he decided to go back to school and he earned a Masters Degree in Journalism from Northwestern University.
An award-winning journalist, Bernard has worked as a reporter /anchor at TV stations in Charlottesville, Virginia, Las Vegas, Nevada, Phoenix Arizona, Atlanta, Memphis, Tennessee and Cincinnati, Ohio. Although he's covered a wide range of stories over the years, he's most proud of a story he broke in Phoenix, involving what was at the time, the largest postal theft in U.S. History. The story that touched Bernard the most, involved the successful rescue of an elderly couple that went missing for more than 48 hours in the mountains.
Bernard is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., as well as the National Association of Black Journalists. Outside of CBS Atlanta News, Bernard enjoys live music, reading, going to the movies, spending time with family and sports. In fact, if you talk to anyone who knows him, they'll tell you he's a ‘sports nut', especially when it comes to basketball and football.
Bernard enjoys telling the stories of people who are often overlooked. If you have a story idea, Bernard would love to hear from you.
