Cris Martinez joined CBS Atlanta News as the Severe Weather Meteorologist in August 2009. He can be seen anchoring the weather weeknights at 4, 5, 6, and 11p.m.
Meteorology was always an interest to Cris, even as a small child back in South Texas. After seeing all types of weather elements ranging from summertime thunderstorms to hurricanes, he knew weather was his calling.
Cris graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. He began his career in sunny Corpus Christi as a weekend meteorologist. He then moved closer to home to Victoria, where he was the co-anchor and morning show meteorologist of KAVU-TV. If he wasn't busy enough, Cris also worked as weekend meteorologist for KENS 5 in San Antonio and KIAH in Houston. After two years, Cris decided to head to Central Florida, where he was the morning meteorologist and traffic anchor at WOFL-TV.
Cris holds the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorology (CBM) Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society. He is an active member of the American Meteorological Society, National Weather Association and NAHJ (National Association of Hispanic Journalists). Cris is excited about being in Atlanta and loves exploring new restaurants and all Atlanta has to offer.
In his spare time, he enjoys working out, bowling, being active in the community (Big Brothers/Big Sisters, March of Dimes, American Diabetes Association), heading out to the beach, cooking and anything that involves being outdoors. Cris also loves interaction with viewers. Feel free to contact him with any weather questions you may have.
