CBS Atlanta Wins 'Best Newscast' Emmy!

On Saturday night, WGCL-TV, Meredith Broadcasting’s CBS affiliate in Atlanta, brought home the top news honor from the 2008 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Southeast Regional Emmy Awards.

CBS Atlanta News at 11:00pm was awarded the Emmy for Best Daily Newscast. CBS Atlanta bested three competitors from Atlanta.

“This is a great honor for the entire station,” said Andy Alford, WGCL-TV Vice President and General Manager. “This is an award that is well deserved and the result of the hard work and creativity our staff brings to the station every day. Tonight’s Top Stories and Tomorrow’s Forecast In The First Five Minutes at 11:00pm resonates with viewers and we’re very happy the newscast appeals to our peers, who honored us with this award.”

CBS Atlanta’s Jeff Gilbert was also awarded an Emmy as outstanding Newscast Director for his work on Atlanta’s only 4:00pm newscast, CBS Atlanta News at 4:00pm.

The 2008 (NATAS) Southeast Regional Emmy Awards were presented on June 21st at the Buckhead Grand Hyatt in Atlanta. The Emmy Awards recognize excellence within various areas of the television industry. The awards are a symbol of peer recognition from over 12,000 members of the Academy. Each member casts a ballot for the category of competition in their field of expertise.
