CBS Atlanta Student Internship Program
CBS Atlanta is the fastest growing choice for local news at 4, 6 and 11pm. More people are switching to CBS Atlanta for breaking news and information than any other station in Atlanta. We also are leaders for information on civic and community news and events.The CBS Atlanta student intern program offers hands-on work experience in a dynamic and creative work environment. Through the program you have the opportunity to develop tangible skills that may be transferred into many work arenas in the broadcasting business.Our program is:
CBS ATLANTA - INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIESLength: Twelve to fifteen weeks; to be scheduled based on school schedule. Actual dates for each internship may vary.Fall Internship: September – December
Winter/Spring Internship: January – May
Summer Internship: June – AugustInternships Available:Advertising Sales & Marketing:
Preferred Area of Study: Business, television, communications
Learn the sales process, ratings and evaluations, building presentations, post-buy analysis, new business prospecting, sales technique.Programming / Research:
Preferred Area of Study: Business, television, statistics, communications
Learn about program acquisition, program operations, ratings, program and sales analysis.Engineering / Broadcast Operations:
Preferred Area of Study: Engineering, television
Assist in production of live newscasts in master control, camera shading, microwave control, satellite feeds, and documentation of projects in CAD and Excel. Help with the dubbing of commercials, programming feeds and feedbay, and learn on-air operations of a television station.Information Technology (IT):
Preferred Area of Study: Network Administration
Learn Local Area Network (LAN) administration, test and deploy software, provide phone switch administration, troubleshoot user problems.Production:
Preferred Area of Study: Television Production
Trained to operate camera and prompter, observe all broadcasting technical areas and assist with special production projects.Promotion Intern:
Preferred Area of Study: Television, marketing
Assist in writing and producing on-air promotion for station programs and newscasts, learn to edit spots for air.Graphics Intern:
Preferred Area of Study: Graphic design, animation
Learn graphic equipment and design, while creating graphics and animation to be used in promotion and on-air within newscasts.Community Relations/Public Relations:
Preferred Area of Study: Community relations
Work in that department focusing on community events, contacts and public relations.News:
Preferred Area of Study: Journalism, Television
- open to students, who are rising juniors or seniors, of colleges/universities who offer academic credit for this program

- Producer Assistant: Work on one or more of the newscasts, writing copy, researching stories, setting up stories, shadow producing. (Two available)
- Weather Intern: Work with the chief meteorologist, gathering information to analyze weather patterns and construct maps, prepare graphics, research stories. (One available)
- Sports Intern: Work with sportscasters writing and editing for the sportscast, setting up stories, researching stories. (One available)
- Photographer / Editor Intern: Learn to shoot and edit stories for newscasts; shadow photographers on stories, learn to shoot and learn to edit stories for the newscast. (Two available)
- Assignment Desk Intern: Assist the desk with setting up stories and future planning, gather information for stories and coordinate crews for our daily coverage. (Two available)
- Special Projects / Consumer Unit Intern: Work with our special consumer / investigative unit, researching stories, writing and assisting with these special stories and series for the newscast. (One available)
