CBS Atlanta Technical Information

Attention DSS and other satellite service subscribers:

WGCL-TV is now available by satellite and no waiver is needed. Congress approved and the President signed a new Satellite Home Viewer Act on November 29, 1999, allowing "local-to-local" rebroadcast of Atlanta's network affiliates by satellite. DirecTV and EchoStar's The Dish Network are now offering WGCL-TV/CBS, as well as local affiliates of ABC, NBC and the network programming of PBS to most areas of North Georgia. You should contact your satellite programming provider for details regarding their Network Package. The new law continues to prohibit satellite companies from importing "distant" signals into a local affiliate's primary coverage area as a new service. If you own a "big dish" and do not receive a Grade A signal from a local affiliate, you may be described by the new Act as an "unserved" home, and may qualify for a "distant" signal from your Satellite provider who does not offer local stations. The Act provides for your satellite program provider to process any requests for a waiver, if you qualify for it.
