NFL Suspends Giants LB Boley

POSTED: 7:31 pm EDT July 7, 2009

(Sports Network) - The NFL suspended New York Giants linebacker Michael Boley for the 2009 regular-season opener due to a violation of the league's personal conduct policy.

The suspension reportedly stems from an incident in May 2008 when he was charged with battery of his wife. Boley was with the Atlanta Falcons at the time.

Boley will miss the September 13 home game against Washington, but is eligible to return for the following weekend's contest at Dallas.

Just last month, Boley underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip. A full recovery is expected in 8-10 weeks.

The 6-foot-3, 236-pound Boley, who signed with the G-Men as a free agent on February 28 after four years with the Falcons, has recorded six sacks, six forced fumbles, five interceptions and four fumble recoveries in 64 games -- 52 starts.
